SlingFin needs to make "TRUE 2P" tents that accommodate two 25-inch sleeping pads without pushing out the sidewalls. Tapered floors are so naughties. The Portal 2 would be just about perfect with a uniform 51-inch floor width and both ends guyable with internal guys also at both ends. Fantastic material selection. The footprints are a bit pricey compared to other brands.

I believe you on the waves. The biggest thing I noticed going through like Jack's canyon when you are floating it it feels like cliffs coming up against you. The GoPro video made it look like a rocky hills. So it definitely shows in comparison that's a GoPro does not do the waves Justice.

This is what I want to know. How is it for putting on shoes. I have a folding chair right now where I have to hold my breath to tie my shoes.

AIRE told me (when I asked about the AMOUNT of water contained in the floor) that the engineers estimated it was about 15 pounds of water. SO technically it's heavier, but that does NOT translate to a much more slowly maneuvering boat. It's all about the set-up. I love my 156R and I've had it on Class V rivers and feel very comfortable precisely BECAUSE it tends to 'stick' to the water

This was interesting & informative. I had no idea Slingfin was such a modest size. I have chosen to sell 3 of my other tents to buy a Portal 2 which will support an innovative smaller business. It possibly explains why sourcing one was not super easy from the UK. I know they're in Europe, but searching there was messy so I ordered mine (very simply) from Australia. I am very much looking forward to experiencing the Portal 2 in the Welsh & Scotish hills & mountains. 👍

Curious on your take on my thinking. For bigger water raft trips I have 70m of 9.2 static, as do the other boats. For lighter/kayak /canoe trips combining smaller diameter ropes is normal but way less effective, partly for mechanical advantage but also length. Ive switched my plan away from 3:1 to 4:1 pig rig for a couple reasons. A little more mechanical advantage to mitigate losses... But also skipping low effectiveness prussiks on narrow rope and simply tying a bight in the haul rope. We're not hauling someone out of a crevasse. You typically only need enough total movement to change the forces to unwrap, not haul it to shore. This means you don't need continuous rope to anchor and through z rig.

If you are worried about the additional weight of safety gear, lose the same amount of weight and you'll be fine. We all have a pound or two to lose .

Lochsa at this level would be very tough, there are so many bouldering gardens scattered throughout the river.

I wonder if the different fading in the older blue Wings is due to the fact that the blue color was applied via a coating? I've got a Williamson Wide arriving in October and I believe the base fabric color is blue, as opposed to the coating being blue. I wonder if I'll have the same fading issue.

Zach, we ran into you at Indian Creek last week. Five of us had flown in and were waiting for the rest of our crew and gear for hours. The charter company rescheduled the rest of our crew for later that afternoon. We didn’t have any food or water for hours. You graciously shared some snacks with us. We really appreciated your generosity. The rest of our MF trip was awesome. Such a great river.

Nice lines! That right side entrance to Velvet is getting tight! I think I went down within a day or two of you and chose left, but had a harder time keeping a good line in the pour-over downstream. Nice to see I'm not the only one to bonk that rock in lower Hells Half Mile.

Ok Zach.... after a couple years of being told to run knives on the inside of my vest by you and others, I think I'm going to move my NRS co-pilot to my vehicle as a general "open bottles, break windows, etc" knife and take it off the shoulder strap of my blue-jacket. Ever since my first WW trip as a young boy scout, I thought the external NRS knives on PFDs were cool....now I'm realizing they are mostly just "tacti-cool"...and as you point out, they clearly aren't the best at one of their core uses, cutting rope! I will finally be switching to a folding knife that I run inside my clamshell.... you've officially converted me. Now to figure out which one.....

Thanks for addressing this topic! I don't love a low flotation pfd and am a bigger guy. I've read a bunch of articles lately researching "flush drowning" have you done any videos on this topic? If not would you?
